Our First U8 Club Champion

CTC Junior Club Closed – U8  |  For the first time ever, an under 8 junior event was held. With six juniors contesting in the singles, all born in the year 2007, Arnav Bhattacharya had an unbeaten run in the round-robin qualifying matches. Owen Nguyen had the second best results. Moving onto the main draw, Nguyen easily beat Tristan Gottschiack 8-0 while Simon Lin put up a brave fight in his semi-final against Bhattacharya. Lin lost 6-4 after being 5-2 down in the set. In the final Nguyen, who had lost to Bhattacharya all season long during practice matches, turned the tables on his opponent. After winning the first set 4-3, Nguyen had a mental let down in the second set allowing Bhattacharya to square the match up with a 4-1 score. In the third set Nguyen regained his composure and hung on to win his first tennis title and made history to become our very first under 8 club singles champion.
