Day One • Coquitlam Junior Spring Challenger | Three of our juniors were in action on day one. Alexander Baumann easily defeated Scott Baily of Delta 6-1, 6-1, in just under an hour in his first round of the Boys U14 singles. 13 year old Baumann will meet Ryan Emanuele in his next match on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 pm. North Saanich's Emanuele turned his match around after losing the first set 6-2 to the number 6 seeded player, Shubham Soni of Langley. He went on to win 6-3, 6-2. Emanuele will provide some stiff competition for Baumann in the round of 16. In the Boys 16 singles event, both Ryan Sandrin and Mark Linott played their first round matches with less success. 14 year old Sandrin cited a lack of match experience in his loss to Mtija Ivaz of Victoria. Ivaz won the match 6-4, 6-3. Linott who turns 15 next Friday, was unusually nervous as the match went on against M.C. De Beer of West Vancouver. He could not provide a reason why he was feeling nervous during the match, especially in the second set. He lost 7-5, 6-0. We will see more club juniors in action on day two.
