Seeded number two, Tetik, 17, had a misfortune in the boys under 18 singles finals against the unseeded Roy Cheng. Cheng had earlier beaten Joshua MacNeil of Whistler and the No. 3 seed, Harman Gosal of Vancouver, and our own club junior, Daniel Shen in the semi-finals. On his way to the finals, Tetik defeated club mate Ken Zhang in three sets, and Saud Romus Izquierdo 6-2, 6-0. In the finals, Tetik had a tough first set, winning the tie-breaker for a one set lead. In the second set, the momentum swung in Cheng's favour as he took the second set in an easy score of 6-1. At the start of the third set, Tetik regained his footing and led 3-2 before a bad turn of event caused him his mobility around the court. He lost his footing which resulted in a twisted ankle. Tried as he might, the hinderance proved too much of a pain. The third set slipped away. Cheng won the set 6-4 and the match.
Unseeded Jayden Nielsen, 11, battled her way into the finals of the girls under 12 singles event by defeating Keyu Chen 6-4, 7-6 and the No. 2 seed, Madison Fan 6-4, 6-3. In the finals, Nielsen came up short against the top seed, Alex Walker of North Vancouver, losing 6-2, 6-3.
On the final day, the No. 2 seeded team of Tetik and doubles partner Alexander Baumann, 15, met the No. 1 doubles team in the final. The top seeds proved to be too strong for our Tetik and Baumann partnership. Gosal and MacNeil took the boys under 18 doubles title with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Other notable results: The partnerships of Steven Shen and Ryan Sandrin, and Daniel Shen and Ken Zhang, made the semi-finals of the boys under 18 doubles event. Jenny Jia and her doubles partner Neeki Alavi of North Vancouver also made the semi-finals of the girls under 14 doubles event. Steven Shen who lost his first round match against Roy Cheng in the boys under 16 singles event, won the consolation draw. In the girls under 10 singles consolation, Jeneviève Patry-Smith, 10, had a hard fought match against club mate Alexandra Nielsen, 8, in the final. Patry-Smith won 3-6, 6-4, and 17-15 in the super-tiebreaker. Daniel Shen made the semi-finals of the boys under 18 singles event. He lost 6-3, 6-0 to the eventual champion Cheng.
