Ball Boys and Ball Girls Wanted!

Davis Cup 2015  |  Fancy getting close to Canada's best male player, Milos Raonic ranked number 8 in the world, or our very own BC boy Vasek Pospisil, ranked number 53? How about the current world number 5 player Kei Nishikori of Japan? Get ready and try out for the ball crew for this Davis Cup encounter from March 6 to 8, 2015 at the Thunderbird Sports Centre at UBC. Recruitment for the ball crew tryouts will be on January 15. Candidates must be between 11-16 years old and must have tournament experience. Tryouts will involve the testing of speed, agility and rolling ability. Limited spots will be available and 2 to 4 wildcard spots may be held for Tennis Canada/Tennis BC selections.

Tennis clothing and tennis shoes attire required.

Candidates for the second tryout will be selected and notified after the first tryout.

The registration process involves candidates to forward by email their name, birthdate, telephone (home and mobile) and city to tbc@tennisbc.org. Peter Grimsey, a coach at Hollyburn, will be the official trainer and can be reached for further details at peter_grimsey@hotmail.com.

Life Goes On

New Year 2013  |  As I have mentioned in my New Year's message 365 days ago, time will tell. Indeed the time has come and gone. No armageddon. The world didn't fall apart of any sort. That's the good news. Life can carry on. And that means your tennis can still go on. As far as I can tell, 2013 will shaped up to be another excellent season. An item or two to add to the program which I will reveal in our registration brochure in February. As always all the best to your tennis in the next 12 months. Make your New Year's tennis resolutions and stay with it. Do dream big. Big dreams do happen. Make the sacrifice. Word hard and you will accomplish lots.

Oh No... Here Comes 2012!

As we ring out 2011, we pray and hope the world doesn't fall apart and come to an end within the next 12 months. We don't need an armageddon of any sort. Time will tell. In the meantime, we wish you all the best for your tennis in the coming new season. Dream big, work hard and you will accomplish lots.

Happy New Year!

2010 | So much had happened during this past decade. It is hard to believe it has been 10 years since the lead up to the Y2K global meltdown that never happened. Bill Gates' softwares would have caused computers to crash. Credit and debit cards would not work. Our money would not rolled out of the ATM when we wanted it. Planes would not fly. The world would be in so much chaos. And that was just the prelude to beginning of the third millennium. Then the event that changed the world and our lives happened on September 11 in 2001. Seven years later United Sates of America elected their first black president. The credit crunch that hit every corner of the world head on in 2008 actually took root in 2007. As our Earth grew warmer, Arctic ice melted. On the social network front, we have Google and Facebook. And then we have Twitter, and tweets we do not need to know. We see a rise in reality TV on our tele, viral videos on Youtube, and blogging media like Perez Hilton. In the world of tennis, Roger Federer became king and possibly the best tennis player the world has ever known. And Federer best pal, Tiger Woods, lost his grip on the number of women he had kept hush hush on the side, along with the millions he lost on endorsement.

Finally the first day of 2010 is upon us. It is like a hump day. Once we are on it, we can look forward into the new year. We can now put 2 months worth of Christmas in our rear view mirror. After a few more precious sleeps, we will have spring in our sight. The daylight will be getting longer and we will be ready for a brand new outdoor season. Our junior program made great head way this past season and is gearing up for another exciting start in just a few months time. But before we can bring out our racquets and dust it off, we have to welcome the world to our little corner of the globe in 41 days. The month of February will see what the best in the world of winter sports can offer. Of course after all this hype leading up to this quadrennial event, it remains to be seen if Vancouver, Whistler and our Canadian athletes can really pull it all off.

Wishing everyone a wonderful new year and an amazing tennis season to come.  May all your dreams come true and the new year brings you good health, much happiness, love and success in your tennis.  I'm please to say the new coming tennis season promises to be bigger and better.  I have set the countdown to the opening day and it shows 143 more days to go. Our new program brochure will be coming out around middle of March.
