Our Winner is a Friend!

Junior Club Awards 2014 |  For the past five years this Best Junior Player of the Year Award belonged to Alexander Baumann. And now with his departure from the junior ranks, we have engraved a new name onto this award. This year we bestow the ultimate club award to Riley Friend. Friend is sixteen years old and has made his presence felt in the tournament circuit this past season. Twice he made the finals. In both tournaments, as an unseeded player, he battled through a series of matches before falling short in the finals. He also made it to the semi-finals stage of two tournaments with his doubles partner Jean Paul Pamarang.

Friend capped his season by winning both the under 18 singles and doubles events in the club closed tournament. Now that he has this award under his belt, it remains to be seen if he can repeat his achievement and success next season and the season after. There are already a few juniors waiting in the wings, ready to snatch it from him come this time next year.

Another Baumann's name made it to the winners' list once more. Twelve years old Steven Baumann became the youngest recipient so far to receive the Most Improved Junior Player of the Year Award. He joins his two other brothers, Alexander and Kevin, to have received a year end award. The Best Effort Award was given out to Sasa Davidovic who is a year younger than Baumann. But at eleven years old, he is not the youngest in this category or any other category. That belongs to Willis Lee who won his award in 2010 in this category as a ten years old. Donna Labayo in her final year as an eligible junior received the most votes in the sportsmanship category and took home the Sportsmanship Award.
