Baumann & Andjelic Stepped It Up This Year

CTC Junior Club Closed – U14 | Thirteen years old Kevin Baumann is no stranger in getting to club event finals. He won the club under 12 singles in 2010 and reached the final of the boy's under 14 finals a year later. Last year he lost out in the quarter-finals. 2012 was his year of inconsistency and lack of focus. In 2013 he made no mistake in claiming his under 14 club singles title. He was a head and shoulder above the rest of his competition. He defeated his 14 years old doubles partner Zack Amaral 6-4, 6-1 in the finals. Brandon Nam Luu did his best to beat Dilraj Phull for the third place. The match went the full three tough sets before Luu earned his victory by winning it 7-5, 6-7 (8-10), 11-9. Luu lost to Phull in the earlier round robin section. Baumann also snatched the boy's doubles titles with Amaral. His younger brother, Steven, came in second place in the round-robin doubles contest. Steven and his doubles partner Jason Wu lone defeat came at the hands of the title winners.

In the girls' section of the under 14 category, there was an upset in the semi-finals. Franzene Tsui, last year's third place finish, defeated the defending champion Jenny Jia in a third set super-tiebreak. Both players fought hard but Tsui ended the match with a 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 victory. She met Tiana Andjelic in the final but lost out in a 6-1, 6-2 scoreline. Fourteen years old Andjelic claimed her first title after coming in a runner-up position last year. Jia settled for third place after she beat Julia Kwasniak 6-1, 6-1.
