"Use The Force, Young Jedi"

CTC Junior Club Closed – U18  |  The finals of the under 18 was finally completed in mid October. And a new champion was crowned. After a series of round-robin matches that started in July, last year's champion, Ken Zhang, surrendered his title at the quarter-final stage in the main draw. This year's champion, Jedi Tetik, did not need to use his lightsabers to fend off his opponents. His tennis racquet did most of the action. His opponent in the final was none other than Alex Baumann, a name you would find at this late stage of the competition for the past three years. Still looking for his first win at home, a recently turned 16 years old teenager, Baumann came up short against a well prepared opponent. Baumann had earlier beaten the No. 2 seed, Daniel Shen in the semi-finals in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. This was his best match of the year. His forehand and backhand passing shots worked brilliantly against his attacking opponent. In the final, Baumann had a hard time finding his range from the baseline. Tetik was much more grooved in his groundies, forcing Baumann to make many of the unforced errors. Tetik serves were spot on in the match. A year older than Baumann, Tetik had an easy 6-0, 6-1 semi-final win over Steven Shen, the younger brother of Daniel.

This year the under 18 mixed doubles event was a last minute addition to the club junior closed tournament. This round robin event was a contest between four teams. When all the matches were completed, there was a three way tie for first place. The tie was broken by a count back of the number of games won and lost. By winning 23 games and giving up only 16 games, Alexander Baumann and Anastassia Krasnova were declared the winners. The runner-up team belongs to Steven Shen and Vanessa Mansfield.
