CTC Junior Club Closed – U10 | The round-robin matches divided the girls from the boys, except for the youngest member of the group. Seven years old Alexandra Mandewo did not make it to the main draw. With an all girls main draw, both semi-finals were decided in three sets. The top seed, Alexandra Nielsen, 9, was taken to three set by 8 years old Franzene Tsui. Nielsen managed a comeback after losing the first set 6-4. She won the remaining two sets 6-3, 10-7. Whereas the top seed managed to survive, the second seed, 10 years old Cate Belton, lost to another 10 years old player, Jeneviève Patry-Smith. Belton won the first set 6-4, and had to give up an easy second set. In the super-tiebreak, she could not swing the momentum around and Patry-Smith took the match at 10-7.
In the finals, Patry-Smith had a hard fought first set against Nielsen. Once she had the first set in her pocket, she quickly move through the second set for a 7-5, 6-1 title victory.
The consolation finals contest was between David Patry-Smith, 8, and Steven Baumann, 9. Both boys played very well, and the points were thoughtfully constructed. The closely fought first set went to Patry-Smith at 6-4. But his game started to unravel in the second set. As Baumann started to pull ahead, Patry-Smith was clearly frustrated at his game. The deciding third set was played out in full. Having regained his focus Patry-Smith battled to take control of the super-tiebreaker. The young Baumann fought back and threw everything he had to gain the upper hand. The lead in the super-tiebreaker just see-sawed between these two players. In the end somebody had to win it. Patry-Smith won it with a 6-4, 0-6, 10-8 score.
