It's a Three-peat!

Junior Club Awards 2011  |  Last year's close contest was between the two Baumann brothers, Alex and Willie. Among the five nominees, this year's Best Junior Player of the Year Award is a close contest between three juniors: Alex Baumann, Jedi Tetik and Jayden Nielsen. Each of them has an impressive season.

After having joined us on a couple of road trips last year, Tetik is new addition to our program this year. Tetik ended the season with 3 tournament wins, 3 finalists positions and 1 semi-final appearances in 18 events entered. Our second junior to be in the mix in the top three is 11 year old Nielsen. In only her second full season of tournament play, she has already improved on last season results. With only seven events entered, she came away with 1 win, 3 finalist positions and reached 1 other semi-final. Alex Baumann who has just turned 16 years old a week ago, managed to play in 13 events despite being away for 6 weeks in the summer. His results are 3 wins, 3 finals, and 2 semi-finals appearances.

Deciding who was going to take home this outstanding award at the Awards & Banquet evening was a tough one. This was as close as it got, and several other factors have to be looked into. This Best Junior Player of the Year Award gives recognition to the junior who has the most consistent tournament results, and displays all round sportsmanship, gives best effort in matches and in practices, shows overall attitude and commitment towards training and tournaments, and achieves continuing improvement in match play and technical skills. In the end, Alex Baumann, the winner of the two previous seasons, gets to retain his title one more time. A much surprised win for him when his name was revealed. He thought he had a better chance of taking home the Best Effort Award category.

That award went to 13 year old Matthew Wong. The Best Effort Awards means giving your all in each and every match and your utmost effort in training and practices.

Vanessa Mansfield took home the Most Improved Junior Player of the Year Award. Mansfield who will turn 15 in a month's time, attained the best overall improvement in technical skills and match play during the year. She became one of the two girls to take home a year end award in the past three years. The second girl to receiving one of these awards is 16 years old Giselle Bonney. She was much delighted to receive her Sportsmanship Award. This is an award for fairness, striving spirit, follow the rules of the game, show respect for one's opponent as well as graciousness in winning or losing. Well done to all the winners of this years club awards.
