Coquitlam Tennis Club Junior Program 2016: 2 Silver, 2 Bronze + 2 Consolation Silver

Coquitlam Junior Open Championship – Champs | Rain washed out most of Sunday matches leaving all consolation matches to go pro-set in the format. Unlike the matches in the Challenger tournament later in the week, all Champs matches were completed.

After losing to Oscar Huang of Vancouver in the first round of the under 10 event, Arabdho Majumder made the consolation final, but lost to Michael Chu, of Coquitlam. He teamed up with Leon Kim of Vancouver to reach the final of the boys under 10 doubles. They lost to Matthew Bees and Reid Stimpson 6-2, 6-2.

In the boys under 16 singles event, Alex Baumann beat Xiueng Wang and Graham Huelscher before falling to the No. 4 seed Felix Fan 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. Baumann did better in his second singles event, the boys under 18 singles. En route to his semi-finals appearance, he defeated both Bobby Jelveh of West Vancouver 6-4, 6-3, and Terry Lee of Kelowna 6-4, 6-1. Baumann then faced Felix Fan for the second consecutive match. Fan, unseeded in this event, had earlier beaten the No. 2 seed Michael Bitcon of Kelowna in three sets. This time it seemed Fan who was the fresher of the two as he made short work of the match by winning 6-3, 6-0.

In the girls under 14 singles, Aruscke Bosch reached the semi-finals by beating Taylor Tabernero of Surrey 6-3, 6-4, before going down to Renee Ren. Ren had previously defeated North Vancouver's Khadjia Dumas Da Silva, the No. 1 seed, 0-6, 7-6, 6-2.

Over in the boys under 18 doubles event, William Baumann and Ken Zhang beat Rory Long of Delta and Filip Ostojic of Surrey 6-1, 6-1 to reach the finals. They fought hard in the finals against Sebastian Koning and Daniel Shen, losing in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

In other notable results, in the first round of the boys under 16 singles, Rui Wang defeated Brendan Guay of Richmond 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 before falling to the No. 6 seed Terry Lee 6-1, 6-1. In the boys under 18 singles consolation, Ken Zhang, who went down to Fan in the main draw, reached the final after defeating Bobby Jelveh 8-7. Zhang was unable to compete in the final and had to default the match to the No. 1 seed Plamen Marinov. Marinov was a surprise loser in the main draw. He went down in three sets to the eventual winner, Iacopo Beltramo of Vancouver.
