2 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze + 1 Consolation Gold

Whistler Road Trip 2010  |  The four juniors who made this trip on the very last long weekend before school starts were glad they could stretched out the last days of their summer school holidays. This tournament at the Whistler Racquet Club is a champ competition and hence a smaller group this time around. Nevertheless each one in the group took home a medal or two. The draws may be smaller than usual, but our boys made home runs in both the under 18 singles and doubles.

We managed to find a reasonable accommodation which includes a kitchen. With a small budget for this trip, there were many 'home cooked' meals. In between all the competition, we found time for a bike ride through the village and bike trails. We even have time for the Leonardo Dicaprio's latest movie Inception. Everyone thought it was provocative and mesmerizing. It has such a big mystery-dream sequence that you have to ask yourself at the end of the movie. Is he back to reality or is he still dreaming? We finished the trip with a couple of rounds of bowling.

Alex Baumann made the semi-finals only to loose to team mate Jedi Tetik 7-5, 6-3. Ken Zhang was drawn to meet William Baumann in the first round. The match went to three sets, with William winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Zhang made his way through the consolation draw, before demolishing Bryan Pranjic in straight sets in the final. William booked his place in the finals after beating Filip Ostojic 6-2, 6-4. In the final match, Tetik handled the second Baumann brother the same way he did with the first. He defeated William 7-6, 6-2.

These four juniors partnered up and met each other in the doubles finals. Alex and Jedi had an easier route to the final. They made quick work of the two teams they played against. The scores were 8-2, and 8-1 in a pro-set format. In contrast, William and Ken, struggled against their opponents. Their results were 8-7 and 8-6. In the final, Alex and Jedi continued with their dominance in this doubles competition and won 8-2 over William and Ken.
