2 Gold, 1 Silver, 4 Bronze + 2 Consolation Silver

Coquitlam Junior Open Championships – Challenger  |  Rain interrupted match play several times over the last two days of the tournament. Priority had to be given to the main draws to see it through completion. Many consolation matches were left unplayed by the end of the tournament.

A couple of our younger club juniors were making their presence known. Kevin Baumann competed in his final under 10 event. Baumann who turned 10 years old earlier this year took home the title by trouncing Henry Ren of Vancouver 6-0, 6-0. Jayden Nielsen made it to the semi-finals by beating Irene Meng 6-2, 6-1. She missed a place in the final when she lost to the eventual winner in three sets, 6-7, 6-3, 6-1.

Alex Baumann, 14, the elder brother of Kevin, reached the semi-finals of the boys under 18 singles event by winning three matches including defeating the No. 4 seed Steven Shen of Coquitlam 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. He lost to the No. 1 seed Brandon Fung, who won the event. Alex paired up with Jedi Tetik to win the boys under 18 doubles title. Seeded as the number 2 team, they easily defeated the No.1 seeded team of Sebastian Koning and Daniel Shen 6-3, 6-2 in the final. Alex's elder brother William teamed up with Rui Wang to reach the semi-finals stage before losing to Koning and Shen 6-2, 6-1. Mark Lintott and Ryan Sandrin also made the semi-finals by beating Joshua and Brian Kim of Abbotsford 6-0, 6-2. They lost to the team of Baumann and Tetik.

Aruscke Bosch partnered with Kerstin Butzelaar of Port Moody lost their final doubles match 6-1, 6-3 to Sara Korzeniecki of Anmore and Olivia Oszkiel of Surrey.

In one of the two consolation draws that were completed, Giselle Bonney, 15, lost to Harnoor Gill of Squamish 8-2 in the final of the girls under 18 singles event. Mark Lintott, 16 reached the final of the boys under 16 event only to have the event not finished.

In other notable results, both Rui Wang and William Baumann made it to the second round of the boys under 18 singles. Wang defeated Filip Ostojic of Surrey 6-3, 6-1 but lost to Victor Choy of Burnaby 6-3, 6-3. Baumann had beaten Xiuneng Wang of Richmond 6-4, 6-2 before losing in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to Burnaby's Graham Huelscher. Jenny Jia, 11, moved into the girls under 14 singles quarter-finals by beating Tia Quo Vadis of Vancouver 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. She faced the No. 3 seed Fiona Majendie of West Vancouver and was beaten 6-1, 6-0.
