1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze, 1 Consolation Gold + Silver

Coquitlam Junior Spring Challenger | Some of our club juniors did really well in this spring open tournament that has just ended at the Coquitlam Tennis Club. Our best results were in the boys' under 18 singles draw. Two brothers, William and Alexander Baumann, met in the finals for the first time. Working their way through the main draw, they defeated three other opponents each to set up an all Baumann final. Willie, the older sibling, emerged the winner, beating Alex 6-2, 6-4 to claim the under 18 title. See the next topic posting below.

In the same under 18 draw, fellow club-mate Rui Wang did his best to beat three other opponents, including the number three seeded player, Matija Ivaz of Victoria, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 to set up his semi-finals match against the 16 years old Baumann. Willie proved more mentally prepared for this match as he demolished Wang 6-0, 6-2. Mark Lintott, seeded number 5, reached the quarter-finals by beating Richard Chen 6-0, 7-5. He faced the number 2 seeded player, Saud Romus Izquierdo of Richmond in the quarter-finals and lost 6-1, 6-1 despite playing well in the match. Alexander Eriksson also won his first round match, beating Colter Louwerse of Chilliwack, 6-0, 6-4.

On the consolation side of the draw, Ryan Sandrin, seeded No. 6 in the main draw, won his first match, beating David Schriemer of Kelowna 6-3, 6-4. His next match against Ivaz was evenly split in the first two sets. Sandrin lost his focus in the third and let the match slipped away. Ivaz beat him 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 and he went on to win the consolation final. Kenan Hu also made it to the quarter-finals on the consolation draw, only to lose to Hal Shin in three set, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
In the boys' under 12 draw, Arabdho Majumder made it through his first round match beating Richmond's Gregory Dee 6-4, 6-4. In his quarter-finals, he was up against Luka Vukovic of Burnaby and this match ended in a 6-0, 6-2 defeat.
On the girls' side of the draws, Jayden Nielsen won the girls' under 10 consolation final, beating Michelle Lim of Vancouver in a tough three sets match. Nielsen lost the first set 6-1, and fought back to win the tiebreaker in the second, and the super-tiebreaker 10-8 in the third.
In the girls' under 14 event, Aruscke Bosch earned our club a second semi-finals placing when she defeated Vancouver's Tia Quo Vadis 6-1, 6-0 in the quarter-finals. She lost 6-3, 6-4 to Harnoor Gill of Squamish in the semi-finals. Harnoor Gill had previously beaten the number one seed, Nicola Ros of North Vancouver 7-6, 6-3 in her quarter-finals match. Donica Labayo made the girls' under 14 consolation final by beating fellow club-mate Anastassia Krasnova, 6-2, 6-0. Labayo had to default in the finals after losing the first set 6-0. Her previously injured ankle could not hold up during the match.
