From The Green Grass Courts To The Putting Greens

Day 5 | All good things must come to an end. One cannot help but felt a sense of sadness at the end of another wonderful trip. Another year another Duncan trip is over. Looks like everyone has enjoyed themselves. For some it will be the memories as this could very well be the highlight of their summer. For others, it was the group support as well as competing as a group since tennis is a very individual sport. For me, this was most likely my fourteenth trip to these grass courts in 18 years. It was great to have Danny Camozzi on our teaching team this season and he was with us on this trip. Back in the mid nineties, he came to a couple of these trips. Being his first time back to these grass courts, brought back loads of memories and I am most certainly sure those were good memories. Also joining us in Duncan for a couple of days was Scott, who had his own experiences here as a junior as well from the mid-to-late nineties. He is now stationed in Duncan for his law-enforcement duties. No doubt this trip was very exhausting for me, but I was so stoked about this trip, to be able to bring our club juniors here to experience what it is like playing on grass. Many, if not almost everyone, have never played grass court tennis before. The satisfaction has to be seeing on their tired faces on the final day, their own enjoyment, their individual accomplishment, and the team bonding for these juniors is priceless.

The day was not over yet, after putting in all the hard work, there had to be some R&R. Sunday morning started off with a team breakfast, then back to the motel to check out. We headed to Ladysmith, about less than 20 minutes away. Played a round of nine hole golf. Yesterday we were all at the driving range, and for most, learned how to drive the white dimple filled ball out to the open field. Terry, who is also a golf enthusiast, went around to instruct the basic hitting technique with the golf club. Over at the nine hole course, it did not really matter as we all enjoyed playing something new, something different. We already have tennis in our back pocket.
