2 Gold, 3 Silver + 2 bronze

Day 4 | What a victorious day we had in the finals! Starting the day off at 10 am, we have a pair of boys doubles finals to contest. On court number one, the team of Alex Baumann and Steven Shen displayed a high level of consistency to easily tounce their opponents, Ryan Emanuels and Kieran Halliday, 6-1, 6-1. They didn’t let their opponent a chance to get into the boys under 14 doubles finals with their dominance and team work. Over on court number three the pairing of Ilya Tihanenoks and Daniel Shen had a hard fough match in the boys under 18 doubles finals. After loosing the first set 6-4, they raced up to a 5-2 lead in the second set. It seemed lady luck was not on their side and they could not take another game from their opponents. They lost the finals 6-4, 7-5 to Aiden Eakins and Troy Tronrud, the No. 1 seeded team.

At high noon, two singles finals commenced. The youngest Baumann on our team returned to the grass court to face Ryan Emanuels once again. This time it was in the boys under 14 singles finals. The last time both players met was in May at the Coquitlam Junior Spring Challenger. That first encounter resulted in a victory for Sidney's Emanuels, after he battled from a 3-5 first set deficit. Today Baumann played superb tennis with pin-point groundstrokes accuracy which forced Emanuels to commit error after error. In the end Baumann smacked Emanuels for a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Nicola Brevik began her girls under 18 singles finals almost the same time as Baumann. Playing against a more consistent and harder hitting opponent, Brevik found her game going south. Unforced errors prevented her from gaining much ground in the match. Alexandra Khadzhyan won easily scoring 6-1, 6-0 against Brevik.

A little while later, Steven Shen headed back onto the grass court to play his consolation finals against Nyles Nisson. Nisson is a much improved player. Nisson put up a good fight in the match, even though the score of 6-1, 6-3 may suggest otherwise. The last finals involving our team was the boys under 18 singles. Daniel Shen contested against Socrates Bousbouras. Both players frequently exchanged breaks in the first set, with Shen coming ahead with a score of 6-4. Socrates stepped up his game by a couple of levels and regained control of the match in the second and third sets. The final score was 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. After a well earned performance from our team, we all headed to the local Aquatic Centre for some swimming, diving, water slide and just enjoying the wave pool. More pictures coming up including day five and our group picture.
